Gospel According to St. John Chapter 1

Gospel According to St. John

Chapter 1

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. He was in the beginning with God. 3. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4. in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 1 to 4)

Oh God my Father as I have always believed all creation and existence itself has its origin in You my God and Father, and nothing can exist with You. Your Word was the stimulus to all creation, for You proclaimed the order for all to be and it was. Amen. Therefore You are in control of all, for only You have the manual of life and not humans. As the "Master Creator" You gave us the ability to procreate and do great things in Your Name. Anything that we do that is not according to Your will is doomed to fail, however, all good things that are done in Your Name and according to your will have  a hundred percent success. Amen

 5. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 5)

Oh God my Father the darkness of evil always tries to overcome Your light, however the devil is a loser and this evil spirit does not stand a chance against You Amen.

6. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 6 to 9)

Oh God my Father, although we are not John, we have also been given the duty to testify as witnesses to You by both our words and our deeds during our every day life. When sharing these prayers, I also testify for You oh God my Father, but I am not the light. The reader of this blog, is to use the content as means to continue growing in one's relationship with You my God. I am not important. The aim is that Your Word the light of the world and my world of each individual will arrive at everyone's pc or other device and can, than be shared to ensure spiritual growth Amen.

10. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him.

(The Gospel of   St. John Chapter 1 verses 10 to 11)

Oh God my Father as sons and daughters we are to recognise each other, as the lamb follows the shepherd. Although we have heard and read a lot about You my, God and Father at times we still experience a lack of faith as experienced by the people of Your time who saw You walking along their roads and preaching in their synagogues. I pray that You anoint us again and again with the power of Your Holy Spirit so that all that blocks our experience of You may be removed once and for all. Amen.

12. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13. who were born not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.

(The Gospel of  St.  John Chapter 1 verses 12 to 13)

Oh God, my Father I thank You for this second opportunity to be born again. Even though we could not be born o of the flesh again for the second time, You gave us the opportunity of being born by the Holy Spirit Amen Hallelujah, may I permit You to direct me in all I do even though I am still a sinner! Come, my God and Father and take control Amen!

These are the criteria of those Christians who are born again:

The criteria of born again Christians

14. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth. 15. (John testified to him and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.'")

(The Gospel of  St. John Chapter 1 verses 14 to 15)

Oh God my Father my life is also a living testimony of Your presence. You have intervened many times and are always active in my life even though I am not always aware of Your presence Amen.

16. From his fullness we have  all received, grace upon grace. 17. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.

(The Gospel of St. John Chapter 1 verses 16 to 18)

Oh God my Father, You are aware of the hard times that I am experiencing. I am sorry for focussing on the negative aspects of my life instead of on the positive aspects. I thank You for all the graces that You have showered me with throughout my life Amen.

19. This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"

(The Gospel of St. John Chapter 1 verse 19 )

Oh God my Father, if a member of a terrorist group came and asked us about ourselves and about our religion would we proclaim that we believe in You, or shall we deny You and your name after such a long time of having been baptised, and in a relationship, with You. My answer would still be the truth even if that person is ready to behead me, for it is better for me to die a martyr than a coward Amen.

20. He confessed and did not deny it, but confessed, "I am not the Messiah." 21. And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" He answered, "No." 22. Then they said to him, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"

(The Gospel of St. John Chapter 1 verse 20 to 22 )

Oh God my Father this is a very important question, for those who do not believe in You such people may try to find a rational answer but on the other hand they might not. For those who believe in evolution that might say that they are a by-product of nature and their ancestors are the chimps of Charles Darwin, for others they might have been cats and are now reincarnated as humans, and for others they might be a bunch of cells forming a human being.

However for us who believe in You we can outwardly declare that we are the sons and daughters of the Most High God, the only God who loves us so much that he became flesh in order to redeem us from our sins and is still with us today in the form of the Holy Spirit and that one day which is unknown to us He will come back to earth to implement the final judgement of the earth and restore all creation to its original state where we can live with Him forever Amen. This is my testimony oh God my Father Amen.

23. He said, " I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord," as the prophet Isaiah said.

(The Gospel of St. John Chapter 1 verse 23 )

Oh God my Father when giving testimony about ourselves may we always include that we are Your Sons and Daughters of the Almighty God and that we live for You breathe for You and live our whole lives for You. Amen. In his testimony, our brother John did not say:

"My cousin is Jesus so don't you mess about with me or He will burn you with the fire of hell ok!

24. Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. 25. They asked him, "Why then are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the  the prophet?"

(The Gospel of St. John Chapter 1 verse 24 to 25 )

Oh God my Father, You gave us wisdom and intelligence in order to make good use of it, however, instead we turn our backs on You and abuse that same reason. When we eat of the fruit of wisdom that we are banned from eating we sin. When we use means such as philosophy and psychology in a negative way, we end up asking many questions for what nobody has valid answers and one ends up muddled and in despair. The evil one convinces us to know more and more until it drives us crazy and when we are in despair we end up even turning against You the fountain of all knowledge, love and care amen. I pray oh God that our main priority in life is to seek You above all and also make use of the sciences and arts in order to make a deeper experience of You Amen.

26. John answered them, "I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, 27. the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal." 28. This took place in Bethany across the Jordan where John was baptizing.

(The Gospel of St. John Chapter 1 verse 26 to 28 )

Oh God my Father, without our being aware, there are people in our inner or and outer circles who are really people who are humble and are worthy of being called 'people of God'. I am honoured to have worked with such a person whose name happens to be Joseph. I admire this person for he really loves You and You have had sent him in my life as a signpost to follow during the time we were working together Amen. I thank You God for such people.

Another  typical example of a humble person is Pope Francesco on which we find the following background by clicking on the following link:-

Pope Francesco a truly humble person

29. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, "Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 29)

You are the living God and to You all our praises are to be directed. Amen. Let us join this young group of believers and sing the song 'You are the living God'

You are the living God (credit to living God)

30. This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.'

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 30)

Oh God my Father many people sad many things about You even before You were born. I wonder what we would say about You, in 2017. How would we describe You as a loving Father, a myth or maybe opium or an illusion. I choose to describe You as my God and loving Father, with whom He has had a relationship,  with even before I was born. He is the Potter and I am the non-refined clay, that only He can refine by shaping me throughout the trials of our life Amen.

31. I myself did not know him; but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 31)

Oh God, my Father, there was also a time when we also were strangers to each other, however in time You gradually revealed Yourself to me and still are to this very day. The more I pray and share Your Gospel and all the books of the Bible, the more You share Yourself with me. Oh God, my Father I thank You for this relationship Amen.

32. And John testified, " I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 32)

Oh God my Father I have also witnessed Your presence in my life. You redeemed me from different situations, You healed me from an incurable disease, You saved me from accidents that were almost impossible to reverse. How can I not believe in You? You are my witness before God my Father, and I am Your witness before humanity Amen.

33. I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 33)

Oh God my Father, on reflecting, there was also a time when I was a stranger, in the sense that I did not have a relationship with You, however today even though I am still a sinner the relationship has greatly improved and still has areas in which to upgrade. Amen. Thank You for accepting me as one of Your sons Amen

34. And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 34)

Oh God my Father may my life be a living testimony of Your presence in my life Amen.

35. The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, 36. and as he watched Jesus walk by. he exclaimed, "Look, here is the Lamb of God!" 37. The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 35 to 37)

Oh God my Father, I thank You for the many people whom You chose to be signposts that lead me to follow You and walk in Your ways. I pray that You continue to guide me by means of such people Amen.

³⁸ When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "Where are you staying?" ³⁹ He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o'cklock in the afternoon.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 38 to 39)

Oh God my Father, today You are asking me a very important question. The first question what am I expecting to find in my relationship with You my God and Father, miracles, a life with no problems, riches and comfort or maybe a full solution to all business deals, or maybe the fulfillment of my greatest dream. It is very important that I be honest when answering this question. In my relationship with You my God and Father, I have found a loving Father and even a great friend, with whom I can talk without hving to make an appointment, without the fear of being ridiculed or hurt. A Father who gives reliable advice and one in whom I can totally place my trust.

Some may think oh God my Father, that You are only found in the tabernacle, but this is not totally correct, for in all the places I go, whether at home or at work You are always with me. I open my pocket bible randomly and the verse that You give me is always related to either my situation at the time or related to the place where I happen to be. There was a time when I had an important interview. Before going about two minutes before I opened my bible. I felt insecure about this opportunity, I was not sure if it was according to Your will or not. The verse that You gave me said, "They have ears but they will not listen". The verse confirmed that although I would be honest throughout the interview, the aftermath would not be positive, so even though I was offered to sign the contract I refused and attended for a similar interview and even signed the contract, with the agency that I am working with for the last six months.

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed). ⁴² He brought Simon to Jesus who looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas (which is translated Peter)

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 40 to 42)

Oh God my Father, may we all be bridges or means of helping others come to You. Charity begins at home and this is the greatest act of love and charity that of helping others especially those of our inner circles to connect with You. Amen.

⁴³ The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Follow me"

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 40 to 43)

Oh God my Father You are free in Your decision making and depend on nobody but Yourself. Any day of our life You can choose to visit us and share Your messages, insights or even decde to call us to follow You on a personal level. Therefore since You have no particular day, that day can be any day therefore we are always to be ready Amen. Our one and only prayer is to be:

"My God and Father if You want to speak go ahead for Your servant is listening!"

⁴⁴  Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵Philip found Nathanel and said to him, "We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus aon of Joseph from Nazareth."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 44 to 45)

Oh Philip or better St.Philip you are the best of human friends that one could have had, for you chose to share your findings with others and not keep the treasure for yourself. I pray that I become more generous like yourself and I even pray to God my Father to give me a drop of your faith in Jesus Amen, for you not only believed but shared that belief with others Amen.

⁴⁶ Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." ⁴⁷ When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said to him, "Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verses 46 to 47)

Oh God my Father, many times I behave and speak conditioned by either a personal bias or else by a bias towards others mainly people who are hurting me in the present or in the past. Others may be biased against others due to their skin colour or country of origin, as in the case of Nathanael. I thank You for the lesson that You give me during this chapter in Your discussion with Nathanael.

⁴⁸ Nathanael asked him, "Where did you get to know me?" Jesus answered, "I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 48)

Oh God my beloved Father nothing can ever we do or say can ever be unknown to You for You are anywhere at any time. I thank You for always being aware of me my God and Father Amen.

⁴⁹ Nathanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 49)

Oh God my Father, Nathanael's relationship with You was still one based on believing on the bases of seeing is believing. This is why many fortune tellers are held as ebing creidble. Jesus was treated in the same way in his encounter with Nathanael and Jesus made him aware of such behaviour.

⁵⁰  Jesus answered, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 50)

Oh God my Father, when praying on this verse I feel that You are addressing me with the same question. It is as if You are asking me:

"Do you believe in me because I cured you from irritable bowel syndrome? You have seen nothing yet! I can do many more things in your life in the future!

⁵¹ And he said to him, "Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 1 verse 50)

Oh God my Father, as You told Nathanael, You are telling me and I believe every word You say my God and Father Amen.

I would like to end this first chapter of the Gospel according to St. John with the following prayer:

Oh brothers and sisters and anybody who proclaims to believe in God my Father, now is the time to question why we believe in Jesus, if it is we were brought up in Catholic Chrsitian or Roman Catholic environment, or to be socially accepted or else because Jesus has touched our heart and we truly believe in Him. Amen
