The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2

Gospel According to St. John

Chapter 2

¹ On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 1)

Oh God my Father, mother Mary was always by Your side almost everywhere You went. When You called me she was also by You. I pray that she be my mother and adopt me as one of her many sons Amen, so that were You be, I can also feel both your presence Amen and therefore we would never be separated from each other Amen.

² Jesus and his disciples had also been invited in the wedding

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 2)

Oh Jesus Son of God my Father, wherever You travelled, the disciples where always with You, therefore who invited You would have to finance both yourself and the twelve disciples. However, whatever the cost I am ready to open my heart and mind to You and Your disciples. You are all invited to dwell in me and help me clear up the disaster of a life that I am currently living Amen.

³ When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him. "They have no wine."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 3)

Oh holy Mary mother of Jesus and even my mother, I thank you for keeping an observant eye on the world. You are aware of when we lack love, respect, justice and mercy and You intervene on our behalf before Jesus my God and Father. I thank You for doing so my God and Father Amen.

⁴ And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 4)

Oh God my Father, I thank You for Your humility towards Your mother, even though it was not according to Your timing You did not refuse Your mother's request to somebody who was in distress. I pray oh God my Father, that You make me humble enough to go against my will Amen and accomplish what You ask of me. Thank You Jesus.

⁵ His mother said to the servants. "Do whatever he tells you."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 5)

Oh God my Father, even to this hour I am willing to obey every word You tell me. I am Your servant who is thirsty to listen to Your voice as You did once, but You have not spoken to me in this way again, maybe it is because You are waiting for a response from me that is to obey You and then You will speak again. Amen.

⁶ Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 6)

Oh God my blessed Father on reflecting as humans we are also like the stone water jars in the sense that You fill us up in different measures of faith love and talents. However like the jars although they are made of stone which is a hard material, we can also be fragile if not handled with care. Amen.

⁷ Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 7)

Oh God my beloved Father, our obedience is to be like that of the servants. When they filled the jars they filled them to the brim and not a quarter or half their volume. They obeyed You to the letter and placed their full trust in You Amen.

⁸ He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 8)

Oh God my Father when we decide to obey You there is no turning back, for You open one door after another and one instruction leads to the other until Your plan for us unfolds completely Amen

⁹ When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called to the bridegroom ¹⁰ and said to him,"Everyone serves the good wine first, and  then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verses 9 to 10)

Oh God my blessed Father, when a couple starts lacking in love and appreciation of each other, they are like the marriage that lacked in wine. However, when You intervene without our knowledge or by means of third parties, You restore new happiness to that relationship. When there is cooperation between all parties involved the miracle of renewed love can actually take place. In my marriage, oh God my beloved Father, not all parties including myself were willing to reconcile, and therefore the marriage continued to lack in wine until it had to be called off. I am sorry oh God my Father that this had to happen Amen.

¹¹ Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him. ¹² After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples; and they remained there a few days.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verses 11 to 12)

Oh God my Father, after such a peak experience of Your glory the disciples may have felt stressed and even overwhelmed by such acts, therefore in order to calm down the tension You decided to calm down the pressure and went to spend a few days in Your hometown. There are moments in life when we really become tense with the demands of life and a break is greatly needed. I pray for a break in the coming days since I have been through a stressful time Amen.

¹³ The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 13)

Oh God my beloved Father, the most important hour of Your life and mission on earth was drawing closer each day, however You knew that You were not alone, because the Father was with You. I pray that You encourage and empower me throughout this week and strengthen in me the belief that You are also with me Amen.

¹⁴ In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. ¹⁵ Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. ¹⁶ He told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!"

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verses 14 to 16)

Oh God my Father, when You exercise Your authority nothing and nobody can stand in Your way. I pray that You continue to use such authority even during our times Amen.

¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 17)

Oh God my Father, I pray that we may not be passive members of Your body. I pray that we bee moved by issues such as divorce, abortion, euthanasia, same sex marriage, and even embryo freezing, and all issues that have to do with human and spiritual welfare for this is an area that consumes us in a special way which has great value for us Amen.

¹⁸ The Jews then said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" ¹⁹ Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verses 18 to 19)

Oh God my beloved Father, many times we are like a classroom full of children asking their teacher to prove this and that, and when one question is answered another one is already to be asked in order to try and catch the teacher without an answer. I pray oh Jesus that we learn from You instead of learning how to test You Amen.

²⁰ The Jews then said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?"

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 20)

Oh God my Father many times we are like the Jews, in the sense that You try to pass on a message to us, however, we are not on the same wavelength and we do not understand what You are meaning by means of events that take place and at times even by means of Your Word. When we decide to act according to the ways of the world we are not in a position to understand, however when we open our hearts to You and surrender ourselves to You, by accepting the truth that Your will be done in any event or circumstance we will start having a better understanding and a deeper experience of Your love and mercy Amen.

²¹ But he was speaking of the temple of his body.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 21)

Oh God my Father, many times You speak clearly to me and others, however as in this case we do not understand what You mean. You permit situations to take place, for reasons beyond our comprehension however You always have our well-being in mind. I pray that Your will be done in all circumstances Amen.

²² After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verse 22)

Oh God my Father, I thank You for reminding us of Your Word during peak moments of our lives. By means of this recollection I can be Your voice in today's world. I thank You for haven chosen me to spread Your Word Amen.

²³ When he was in Jerusalem during the Passover festival, many believed in his name because they saw the signs that he was doing. ²⁴ But Jesus on his part would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people ²⁵ and needed no one to testify about anyone; for he himself knew what was in everyone.

(The Gospel according to St. John Chapter 2 verses 23 to 25)

Oh God my Father You know me inside out, You know when I am being honest with You and You know when I am not being completely honest. You are the only person who can really know me and understand me, because You chose to become a human like me and experience both the positive and the negative side of humanity Amen.

Oh God my beloved Father I would like to close this meditation on the second chapter of the Gospel of  St. John with the following prayer.

Oh God my Father before You we cannot hide anything, there is nothing of our past present and future that You are not aware of. You are the only person who can really care and understand us. You love us so much that You decided to take on Yourself the human Form  in order to share the experience of our lives Amen. Thank You Jesus Amen
